VOLUNTEERING AT BARNES AND NOBLE FOR BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB 2016

On July 18th from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, members of the Society of Young Leaders and Life 360 volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club at Barnes and Noble Ala Moana. At the event, Barnes and Nobles donated a portion of their day’s proceeds to the Spalding Boys and Girls Club. The students had a craft table, scavenger hunt, face painting, reading corner, and to end to end the day, a few dance performances choreographed by the very own students. Thank you so much to everyone who came out.

1st Annual SYL Earth Day Plant it Forward

On Saturday morning SYL members and their guests, volunteered at the Waihe‘e Lo‘i. KARAOKE FOR KEIKI

On Friday evening SYL members and their guests, raised approximately $950 for the Hawaii Opera Theater. We sang karaoke, enjoyed each other’s company and raised money for a great cause.  The cost for entry was $20 and all attendees were given free food and unlimited karaoke for the time of the event. Thank you very much to Hawaii KTV Voice and Loung for hosting the event and sponsoring the karaoke and food.

TREASURE HUNT FOR A CAUSE – A GIVE FUNDRAISER

On a Friday night SYL members and their guests, organized a fundraiser to benefit, YO! House. Since 1989, Hale Kipa and the Waikiki Health Center have been providing services to runaway and homeless youth and young adults on Oahu through the Youth Outreach (YO) program. The program provides street outreach, drop-in services, case management, counseling, and health/medical services to street/street-identified youth on a referral and walk-in basis.

VOLUNTEERING AT HAWAII FI-DO

SYL volunteered by painting the Hawaii Fi-Do house and landscaping the premises. It was a very rewarding experience to do a small part to help people who are doing such great things for our community. We can only imagine how much positivity these dogs must bring their owners, because in the short amount of time that we spent with the dogs, they already lifted our spirits as you can tell by all the pictures below.

VOLUNTEERING AT ACCESSURF

Every first Saturday of the month AccesSurf brings the community and their resources together to empower adults and children with disabilities to enter the water. With the help of swimmers, surfers, land cruisers, and adapted equipment, hundreds of people gather for an all day event, lifting bodies and spirits as they provide water therapy and assisted swimming/surfing to participants. AccesSurf is a unique nonprofit that gives hope and an opportunity to live a life without barriers. Rain or shine, their motto is to have a fun and memorable experience, for volunteers and participants alike.

NETWORKING AT BURN’N LOVE

Burn’N Love was an incredible show and Leo Days, was a great entertainer with an amazing voice. Even if you aren’t a fan of Elvis’ music, you will still be treated to great entertainment. If you are an Elvis fan then you will absolutely love it! Our SYL members had a fun time, rocking out to all of these great songs.

VOLUNTEERING AT LANAKILA MEALS ON WHEELS

Lanakila Pacific is a non profit organization that does much more than just Lanakila Meals on wheels, but also provides teaching and learning centers. On this day we only volunteered with Lanakila Meals on wheels. The purpose of this service is more than just bringing a nutritious meal, but to serve as a connection for our elderly, helping them maintain their independence in their own homes.

2015 SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE

Aloha United Way’s Society of Young Leaders and volunteers from across the island worked together today to prepare over 250 backpacks and over 375 kits of school supplies for local schoolchildren. The school supplies were collected during the Society of Young Leader’s Annual School Supply Drive, which took place June 15 to July 25, 2015. The supplies will be distributed to homeless and disadvantaged students at public schools grades K-12 by the Hawai‘i State Department of Education before the first day of school.

On July 18th from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, members of the Society of Young Leaders volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club at Barnes and Noble Ala Moana. Thank you so much to everyone who volunteered that day. We had a great time being creative and making bookmarks and finger puppets, reading together, and doing yoga at Barnes and Noble. We look forward to the next event with Boys and Girls Club and Barnes and Noble.
